Hello, Seahawk Families!
My name is Desiree Ratcliffe, and I am so pleased to serve as your new Assistant Principal. I am not only blessed to be working with the dedicated and hardworking staff here, but I am also very honored to work at a such a special place in my educational journey. Interestingly, I attended Sunnymeadows as a student, and I worked here as an administrator for 7 years! I am truly elated to be returning once again to work as an administrator in this special community.
I bring 21 years of teaching and administrative experience from my years in MVUSD. I have a strong passion for curriculum and instruction, STEAM education, and the Arts. Prior to beginning this position, I worked as assistant principal at Palm Middle School and Sunnymead Middle School. Before that, I spent almost 7 years as an Assistant Administrator of Instructional Improvement and Academic Coaching. I also taught for 13 years in the classroom before venturing into school administration. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Riverside ( B.A. in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Sociology and Education and a Minor in Dance), teaching credential from UCR, Master’s Degree in Education from UCR, Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Administrative Credential from Concordia University, Irvine, and a NISL certification, too! I love learning and growing as a learner!
On a personal note, I am married and have three wonderful children, Ryder, Eden, and Gideon. I love traveling, musical theater, dancing, hiking, and design projects.
I firmly believe that with care, compassion, and consistent support from the adults in their lives, students CAN be successful in school. I encourage all parents and caregivers to be involved in your child’s education. Join a parent group, if you can! I will work in partnership to be a support and help to ensure students are future-ready, developing their 21st century skills competencies, and prepared for middle school and beyond. I want students to truly have a positive elementary school experience and to tap into their own passions while developing as learners.
I feel a true sense of responsibility to help ensure our students are well connected, feel an authentic sense of belonging, and thrive in this community each day. I am committed to ensuring students are meeting or exceeding their academic goals while also thriving socially and making responsible choices. I look forward to getting to know the students and staff and to celebrating the successes throughout the school year!
Please contact me anytime to discuss any of your questions or concerns. I am here to support you.
Thoughtfully,
Mrs. Desiree Ratcliffe
